SIRS Discover
1. I looked up Koalas. (Gotta love them!) Koalas had 30 - All Articles; 4 newspapers; 18 magazines; 0 reference; 37 pictures. I found out from reading that Koalas are at greater risk than I thought because of loss of habitat and polluted food.
2. Database Features: I looked up Guatemala (my husband went on a mission trip there last January). Under each country you will find: Facts, population, geography & weather, economy. Some interesting facts included the literary rate of 69%, per capita income of $5,400. A very poor country with much need.
2. Maps of the World- included are: United States, Canada, Nations, Regions, U.S. Historical, World Historical, and Outline. I looked up the Canadian Provinces - Atlantic Provinces. I was interested in finding out more about Prince Edward Island. Could you to figure out mileage, main cities, seas, etc.
2. Other Database Feature: Activities Section - Wow! Lots of great activities! I thought I could use art projects, read-aloud plays/stories, food projects, etc. with our after school kids! Thanks!

Hi, BinchyFan, welcome back! Thanks for your comments on SIRS. I can see that you have found things you will use with your students. I'll just mention that the US Historical Maps have Revolutionary War & Civil War battlefield maps. World Historical Maps have WWI & WWII battlefield maps. You can also search maps for terms such as "earthquakes" and get interesting results. I agree that the Activities section is a wow. Glad you found it! In SIRS Issues Researcher, many teachers are liking the Research Tools, especially the "My Analysis," which walks students through the research process step-by-step. Here's to life long learning!
