Lesson 4- Gale Virtual Reference Library - Aug. 22, 2010
1. I clicked on Berkshire Encyclopedia of World History. I looked up the Holocaust. I have several books on the Holocaust in our K-12 library. It is a topic that I know I will focus on with the 6th-12th graders in their research.
2. For the "Basic Search" I looked up A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The Source was: Literature and its Times Supplement 1: Profiles of 300 Notable Literary Works and the Historical Events that Influenced Them. Written by Danielle Price. The following information was included: The Literary Work, Synopsis, Events in History at the Time the Story Takes place, and the Novel in Focus. I was especially interested in the section - Events in History at the Time the Story takes place. Events included: The Hungry '40's (1840's), The New Poor Law, Poor Children: "ragged schools" and child labor, Report on Child Labor - 1843. At the bottom other articles were linked to the index items. Very useful! This will be great for our book groups!
Glad you found some useful information here, BinchyFan. Thanks for your comments.
