World Book

6/30/10 - I used the World Book Kids section and researched our beloved Bison. This is primarily for K-4 - basic quick facts, pics. Next I checked out the World Book Student section and checked out the Bison again. This page had a lot more info on Bison including: encyclopedia articles, dictionary, tables, pictures, back in time articles, and special reports. Primarily for 5th grade on up. (Questions #1/2 on World Book Discovery Exercise)
#3 - I looked up Guatemala in the World Book Advanced. My husband traveled there for a mission trip in Jan. 2009. World Book Advanced had encyclopedia articles, presidential papers, maps, tables, historical maps, pictures, back in time, special reports, web sites and research guides. Very useful. Grades 5 and up thru adult
#4 - World Book Discover - I looked up Secretary of State - Hillary Rodham Clinton. A low reader or ESL patron could have the article read a loud to him/her. Also gave definitions to some words. Grades 5 and up thru adult.
I definetely need to utilize World Book much more. So much to Learn!!

  1. Hi, Time2Read! Welcome to the SD State Library Electronic Resources Challenge! You have discovered some of the wealth of information World Book provides. I encourage you to spend a little more time in each module checking out the special features, such as Kids' World of Animals and Activities, and Student & Advanced's Timelines, etc. Give Discover's World Book Explains and Visual Dictionary a look, too. I think you'll find lots of applications for your students. By the way, all the World Book modules have read-aloud & translation tools. Thanks for your comments!
